Most design firms start with finishes. We start with the life happening inside the house.
Before a single material is specified, we work out how you actually move through your home, what is not working now, and what you want the space to feel like — calm, grounding, inviting, vibrant. Those intentions become concrete design decisions: the layout, the light, the materials, the millwork, the furniture, the art.
The result is a home that supports you rather than one that simply photographs well. This is what we mean by environmental wellness.
Interior design services in Durango
Full-service interior design
End-to-end design from first concept through final installation. We develop the design direction, produce the drawings, specify and source everything, coordinate with your builder and trades, and manage deliveries and install. You make the meaningful decisions; we handle the rest.
Renovation and remodel design
Kitchens, baths, and whole-home renovations. We produce floor plans and technical drawings your contractor can actually build from, and we stay involved through construction so the design that was approved is the design that gets built.
New construction interior design
Coming in early on a new build lets us shape layout, lighting, ceiling detail, millwork and material palettes before they are locked. That is where the biggest gains in both beauty and function are made.
Second homes and mountain properties
Durango and the surrounding valleys draw people who split time between here and somewhere else. We design second homes that feel finished and lived-in from the first visit, and we can manage the entire process while you are out of state.
Space planning and floor plans
Layout studies, floor plans and technical drawings — useful on their own if you have a builder in place and need design documentation rather than a full-service engagement.
Color and material consultation
Paint, tile, stone, flooring, and finish palettes for a single room or a whole house, coordinated so the home reads as one cohesive space.
Remote and e-design
Full design services delivered remotely for clients outside Southwest Colorado. Same process, same deliverables, coordinated by video and shared documentation.
The Aligned Home Method™
Our signature process has three parts.
Understand. We learn how you live, who is in the house, what frustrates you about the current space, and what you want to feel when you walk in the door. You do not need to arrive with a vision — uncovering it is part of the work.
Design. We translate those intentions into a cohesive direction: floor plans, mood boards, technical drawings, and complete selections. You see the whole picture before anything is ordered.
Deliver. We source, order, track, and coordinate. We work directly with contractors, cabinet makers and trades, and we are there through installation and final styling.

Who we work with
We work best with homeowners who care about craftsmanship and want a home that is specific to them rather than a copy of something they saw online. Some clients want to weigh in on every decision; others prefer to hand most of it over. Both work — we set expectations up front so the process feels clear either way.
We are also comfortable working alongside your existing pieces. Meaningful furniture and art often give a home its depth, and we will fold in what you already own where it serves the design.

What interior design costs
Investment varies with the scope, size and complexity of the project, so we do not publish package pricing. What we can tell you:
- A 1-hour in-home design consultation is $500 in the Durango area. Consultations outside the local area are available for an additional charge.
- Full-service projects begin with a conversation about your goals, your home and your timeline. From there we recommend the right level of service and give you a clear investment range before any work begins.
Timelines vary the same way. A single room moves considerably faster than a full-home renovation or new construction, and we set a realistic schedule with you at the start.

Amethyst Interiors is led by Jennifer Waage, who has spent more than 25 years in interior design. Her work spans thousands of individual homes, multi-unit luxury high-rise buildings, and the office of the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan Magazine. She now designs from Durango, Colorado.

Do you work with clients outside Durango? Yes — locally throughout Southwest Colorado and remotely anywhere, depending on the scope of the project.
Do you handle purchasing and installation? Yes. Depending on your scope of services, we manage sourcing, ordering, delivery coordination and installation.
Can you work with the furniture I already have? Absolutely. We incorporate meaningful existing pieces where they serve the design and identify where new pieces will elevate the room.
What if I do not know what I want yet? That is normal, and it is part of our process. We uncover what you love and what is not working, then translate that into a direction.
